OSP E14 Chapter 15: Ransom learns Earth is the Silent Planet & sees it for what it is: upside down

Chapter 15 Summary and Themes Analysis

Welcome back to the OSP podcast! At long last, we get 100% confirmation that Earth is the Silent Planet of Thulcandra. Now we understand at least the title of the book. But we do not quite understand why Earth is called the Silent Planet. Ransom learns that it might have something to do with the fact that the Oyarsa of Malacandra does not receive any communications from the Oyarsa of Thulcandra. If such a being exists. Augray, displaying his expertise in deductive reasoning, concludes that if Earth had an Oyarsa he would be in communication with the Oyarsa of Malacandra. But Jack leaves us scratching our heads even more. If Earth has an Oyarsa, why does he not communicate with the Oyarsa of Malacandra? And if Earth does not have an Oyarsa, why is that?

I am interested to hear listener opinions on Ransom seeing Earth upside down in the telescope. Can this phenomenon be explained simply by practical stuff like space, orbital paths, planetary angles, physics, etc? Maybe. But I have a different take. Check out the show below to find out more.

For all of my subscribers who are closet Iron Maiden fans this episode is for you! Enjoy!
